பிரிட்டனைச் சேர்ந்த தொலைத் தொடர்பு நிறுவனமான வோடஃபோன் மற்றும் ஆதித்ய பிர்லா குழுமத்தின் ஐடியா செல்லுலார் ஆகியவை இணைவதாக திங்கள்கிழமை அறிவித்தன..
இணைப்பு நடவடிக்கையை அடுத்து உருவாகும் நிறுவனத்துக்கு குமாரமங்கலம் பிர்லா தலைவராக இருப்பார் என்று தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
ஆதித்ய பிர்லா நிறுவன குழுத்துக்கு ரூ.3,874 கோடி மதிப்பிலான 4.9 சதவீத பங்குகளை மாற்றிய பிறகு புதிய நிறுவனத்தில் வோடஃபோன் நிறுவனத்தின் பங்கு மூலதனம் 45.1 சதவீதமாக இருக்கும். ஐடியா நிறுவனம் 26 சதவீத பங்குகளைக் கொண்டிருக்கும். எஞ்சிய பங்கு மூலதனம் இதர பங்குதாரர்கள் வசம் இருக்கும்.
வோடஃபோன்-ஐடியா இணைப்பால் உருவாகும் புதிய நிறுவனத்தை வோடஃபோன் மற்றும் ஆதித்ய பிர்லா குழுமம் இணைந்து நிர்வகிக்கும் என்று அந்த நிறுவனங்கள் தெரிவித்துள்ளன.

இந்திய தொலைத் தொடர்பு சந்தையில் கடந்த ஆண்டு இறுதி நிலவரப்படி வோடஃபோன் நிறுவனம் 20.46 கோடி வாடிக்கையாளர்களுடன் 18.16 சதவீத சந்தைப் பங்களிப்பைக் கொண்டுள்ளது. ஐடியா நிறுவனம் 19.05 கோடி வாடிக்கையாளர்களுடன் 16.9 சதவீத பங்களிப்பைக் கொண்டுள்ளது.
வோடஃபோன்-ஐடியா இணைப்பால் வருவாயைப் பொருத்தமட்டில் 43 சதவீதம் அதிகரித்து ரூ.80,000 கோடியாகவும், வாடிக்கையாளர்கள் எண்ணிக்கையை பொருத்த அளவில் 40 சதவீதம் அதிகரித்து சுமார் 40 கோடியாகவும் இருக்கும்.
வோடஃபோன்-ஐடியா இணைப்பைத் தொடர்ந்து, சந்தைப் பங்களிப்பு, வாடிக்கையாளர் எண்ணிக்கை அளவில் நாட்டின் மிகப்பெரிய நிறுவனமாகத் திகழும்.
தற்போது, ஏர்டெல் நிறுவனம் 26.58 கோடி வாடிக்கையாளர்களுடன் 23.58 சதவீத சந்தைப் பங்களிப்புடன் முதலிடத்தில் உள்ளது.

Angry with poor pay hike and lack of growth, Indian IT Employees push government to make resigning easier

NEW DELHI: Indian information technology employees want the government to step in and make it easier for them to leave their jobs, at a time when they face the prospect of poor salary increases and slower job growth.
Over 28,000 professionals have signed an online petition asking the ministry of labour to stop IT companies from holding workers to a three-month non-negotiable notice period.
“It is unrealistic for anyone to plan that far ahead for their future actions and resign in advance not knowing state of the issue in next three months,” the petition said. IT employees say the petition is gathering support across WhatsApp groups and other messaging platforms.
TCS BSE -1.82 %, Infosys BSE -1.87 %, Tech Mahindra BSE -0.17 %, HCL Technologies BSE -0.23 %, Capgemini, Accenture and IBM have three-month notice periods.
The problem for the 3.9 million Indian IT employees is one of job mobility. “Three-month notice is clear exploitation,” said an employee at an Indian IT company, who did not want to be identified.
“The IT companies try to stop employees for three months, but the next company is not ready to wait for three months. So mostly people go jobless for a couple of months and then look for a new post,” he said.
For IT employees — expected to receive low single-digit wage increases for the next financial year — the situation is onerous.
Tech Mahindra has suspended the salary revision process for employees with more than six years of experience, pending a management review. National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) has also postponed setting a target for industry growth until May as the industry battles slowing growth and regulatory hurdles in the US, its largest market.
Human resource experts said the three-month notice period is being used as a tool by IT companies to combat high attrition rates. While these rates vary, most Indian IT firms face attrition rates of between 13% and 20%, according to industry estimates.
The extended notice period acts like a hidden retention policy forcing employees to think twice about leaving, while making it hard for a prospective employer to wait that long. “Many candidates are not able to apply for a new job as prospective employers are not willing to initiate the hiring process because of this clause,” Alka Dhingra, assistant GM at recruitment firm TeamLease, told ET.
In the IT services sector, employees are billable resources and it is likely that a company will lose money if a suitable replacement is not found, forcing companies to adopt every method to retain employees.
“In the services business, companies are almost entirely structuring the arrangement with the client on the basis of the individual employee,” said Anandorup Ghose, partner-talent & rewards at Aon Hewitt Consulting. “A two-three month notice period ensures a contingency plan,” he said adding that it is common across industries.
A longer notice period also gives IT firms a chance to find replacements and this is particularly true for employees with niche skills. Industry seniors are of the view that the issue has been exacerbated by high demand for specific skills like data analytics or user experience “If (employees) doesn’t have good skills or (are) not critical to a project, chances are (companies) will let them leave,” said a senior executive at an Indian IT firm.
“But skilled people will need to serve the notice period because they are hard to replace,” the executive added. However, he added that companies cannot have separate notice period for different employees.
IT companies say they do offer flexibility on the threemonth notice clause.
“We have a three-month notice clause to ensure a smooth project transition as well as to encourage a professional handover. We feel that this is desirable considering the long-term nature of client engagements,” Infosys said in a statement to ET.
“However, we do provide flexibility to our employees in case of personal exigencies or when there is minimal impact on our projects or business continuity.”

US has told India there’s no significant change in H-1B visa regime: Govt


The United States has conveyed to India that there is no significant change in the H1B visa regime, commerce minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday.
Sitharaman said in Lok Sabha that India is articulating its concerns regarding the visa policy vigorously with the new administration in the US.
However, the minister said, there is no significant change in the H1B visa regime.
“The fear, at least for 2017, is not proved to be correct. They (US authorities) are saying their current priority is to deal with the illegal immigrants,” she said during Question Hour.
Sitharaman said the issue was also taken up by the commerce minister recently with visiting Congressional delegation led by Bob Goodlatte and during the visit of commerce secretary and foreign secretary to the US during first week of March 2017.

H-1B Visa holders’ spouses, on H4 visa, will not be able to work if Trump administration has its way

US President Donald Trump has already put a big question mark on the future of H-1B visa applicants in the future, in his move to keep jobs for Americans in all sectors. The Trump administration has already introduced a legislation in the US House of Representatives to take the minimum wage for H-1B visas to $130,000. Now it seems like the spouses of H-1B visa holders are also in the crosshairs of the administration.
The spouses of H-1B visa holders are issued the H4 visa, which does not allow the spouses to work. But from 26 May 2015, there was a provision that was added – H4 visa EAD (employment authorisation document) – which would let dependent spouses of H-1B visa holders work in the US. Back when the changes were made in the H4 visa category, a group called Save Jobs USA had filed a lawsuit in a district court which was dismissed.
After Trump got elected, Save Jobs USA filed its initial brief in an appeals court. The department of justice (DoJ) has filed a brief in Washington DC appeals court, seeking a 60-day freeze for employment authorisation for H4 visa holders. If this is approved, it effectively means that H4 EAD visa holders can no longer seek employment, taking that status back to pre-2015 era.
According to a report in Immigration Voice, there have been several cases of H4 visa dependent spouses starting their own business thereby creating jobs for US citizens. The link has some case studies. Here’s one:
Anuj Dhamija, one of the intervenors on Immigration Voice said, “I have been legally working in the US since 2010 as a Project Manager for a reputed Fortune 100 company. Due to decades long wait to get our green card, I made a switch to the H4 EAD program as it was the only option for me to pursue my business ventures in the interim. On this program, I was able to keep my existing job and also start up my small High End Luxurious Home Remodeling Business. Per my business plan, I targeted to generate $775k revenue in Year 1, $1.6m in Year 2 and $1.9m in Year 3. Along the way, I expected to create 5-10 new American jobs in the construction industry. If this program ceased to exist, I will lose all my investment in the new business and also my job as there will be no other legal option for me to work in the USA. I will face significant financial hardships and won’t be able to provide for my growing family.”
According to co-founder and president of Immigration Voice, Aman Kapoor, the complaint filed by Save Jobs USA had already been rejected as it has no basis for being filed. “Any failure to provide the strongest possible defence of the District Court’s decision risks establishing a precedent prohibiting H-4 visa holders from working under the current statutory regime. Under these circumstances, Immigration Voice felt compelled to act to protect the existing and future work permits of our members,” said Kapoor.
A lot of people take up the H4 EAD visa as the wait for H-1B visa is quite long, what with there being a cap of 85,000 H-1B visas annually. With H4 EAD visa being taken away, a lot of those visa holders will have to let go of their businesses.
